Proposal

Focus
I am intending to create an "ultra-local" newspaper where I am intending to cover the Harrogate area and surrounding villages. The focus of this newspaper is to cover local issues, events and charities, as well as the local perspect of national news. These may include local celebrities, culture and council issues, not to mention small events occuring in local villages.
News Values

The news values which I would give priority to would be large events which would affect the locals, such as the idea of introducing a Tesco to Harrogate, which would affect all the locals. Another area I could priorities could be to feature locals and to personalise the newspapers such as showing the results of the Harrogate Diving team in Wales. This newspaper would feature a mixture of both negativity and positive stories, showing a mixture of vibrant and scandalous news in the area. I want my newspaper to show that there is a strong communtiy qwithin Harrogate and to show all its strengths, and also highlight it's weakness so that the locals know about it and can thus be included; it is both negative and positve.

Ideology
I am intending to replicate the established coventions of the present local newspapers, in order to attract readers, as they are already inclined to read these styled types of papers.
My newspaper will not challenge the "staus quo" as the audience which is being targeted are more likely to read the papers with the similar news layouts. I am also going to make my paper politcally neutral so that I do not lose any of my target audience due to politcal ideas.
Target Audience
My target audience are going to be a wide range of audiences who live in the Harrogate area. The audience are going to made up of all age groups and with different background and experiences. Predominantly, the audiences would be around 30+ years old and middle class.
The people who buy the newspapers may also be read by a secondary audience, i.e Teeenagers.
