A reputable local hospital sends home an 11-year old child sufferinjg from chronic pains; UNDIAGNOSED!
For four months, Johnathan Stewart (11) has been suffering from chronic pains in his groin and stomach that he had to submitted to hospital a total of three times. The first time was in April where it was believed that he was suffering from Apendicitus. He was then sent home by the doctors who diagnosed the pain as a grumbling appendix. For the next four months, Johnathan suffered severe pain in short spasms.
This week, his mother, Nickki Stewart (39) had to send him in twice because of the severe pains to the hospital. On Monday 12 September, they both had to wait approximately 3 hours in A and E, because staff refused to send him to the ward until the pains had subsided. Johnathan had by then been dosed up on diamorphine and numerous other painkillers, and he was still in pain.
Eventually after being admitted, the doctors were unable to help him because he was so drugged up on painkillers. By then, Johnathan had been examined several times, causing pain, and was unable to calm down due to stress and pain.
He was then sent home being diagnosde with Unspecific Pains.
The following Wednesday, after Nickkie sent him to their local GP, who immediately reffered him to the hospital, Johnathan was left in an unused room for observation. He was not seen to until 3.30pm since 10.30am. This was an observation of his health and pains.
Johnathan has a very high tolerance for pain aleady, and can easily deal with pain says Nickkie, who is very angry with the hospital's attitude towards her and her son. Johnathan learnt that he would feel any pain if he sat in an upright position and kep very still, this was how he spent the four hours waiting for a doctor or nurse to check up on him. When a nurse did arrive, she commented that if he was suffering pain, she expected Nickkie to report it to the nurse.
After seeing several doctors, the problem has still not been diagnosed, and he was sent home again.]
"Medicine is not a science" Says the Matron at the time.
Due to these problems, Johnathan has lost 3 days from school, where he was hoping to enjoy his first lessons in Advanced Math at Rosset High School and to do his first science experiments. Being hospitalised two days in the week, it is likely that Johnathan would be dropped to a lower set for maths because he is now behind in the lessons. Nickkie Stewart has lost three days from work as well.
The local GP was not very happy about the hospital's reaction towards Johnathan and now are conducting their own tests to find the cause of pain.
Already the hospital has had cause of concern for this family.
allergic reaction
