Generic Conventions

The Generic Conmventions of Newspapers are the basic ingredients of a newspaper.

OoOoOoO

The name of the newspaper is also on the header of the paper, in large font so that the consumer knows which paper they are buying. Newspapers also have a colour theme which they stick to on the front page, ie: Harrogate Indpendant is red and Harrogate Advertiser is blue. Other than that, the paper is mainly in black and white, except for the odd page where it is in clour to emphasise a picture of importance to create more impact.

A newspaper would have large eye catching dramatic photographs with short informative captions which perks the audience's interest.

Sometimes, papers include an eyecatching advert for a deal or for a competition which is either at the top or the bottom of the page. Adverts are usually black and white, but will be in eye catching colours on the front page.

As well as having adverts and names. the paper also has the date and price printed on the front page. This makes the paper seem more reliable with the date printed and easier for marketing with a pre-printed price.

The layout of the text on the newspaper is always in columns which covers nearly the whole page. There is always an introductionary paragraph composed up 1 or 2 sentences, usually 1. The number of columns are always the same in most broadsheet newspapers.
